Our new partner, Leana Engelbrecht, is set to bolster our competition and regulatory law expertise to add increased value to our practice.
Leana has over 10 years’ experience as a leading competition and regulatory lawyer and is recognised as a notable regulatory expert in the South African market by numerous ratings publications.
Her practice covers all areas of competition law, ranging from cartel defences and leniency, abuses of dominance, compliance advice, dawn raids, market inquiries, competition litigation and local and multi-jurisdictional merger control across the African continent. Furthermore, she has extensive experience in other regulatory fields including consumer protection, franchising, gaming and gambling, data protection, and healthcare. She also advises on related administrative law issues.
She has counselled notable clients across a broad range of sectors including private equity, e-commerce, online platforms, renewable energy, insurance broking, casino and gaming, fast-moving consumer goods, airline, food services, construction and private healthcare.
Leana joins Alchemy Law from Herbert Smith Freehills, where she was director in the Johannesburg Competition, Regulation and Trade team from July 2019. She started her career at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr in 2010 and, in 2016, joined the Competition and Antitrust Practice Group of Baker McKenzie in Johannesburg.
